Wallside Windows and Detroit Pistons surprise Detroit family with new windows through the Gift of Warmth

Wallside Windows and the Detroit Pistons collaborate to bring the Gift of Warmth giveaway to a family in need each winter. The program began in 2019 and on Friday, a Detroit family received the exciting news they were chosen as 2023 Gift of Warmth recipients.

Kiaira Taylor, a mother and Detroit resident, first discovered the Gift of Warmth program from a social media post. Her home experienced a fire in 2010 and was never properly repaired. The fire caused breaks and cracks in her home’s windows and it had become impossible to keep the heat indoors. She wasn’t sure where to turn.

Detroit resident Kiaira Taylor won $10,000 in new windows from Wallside Windows and the Detroit Pistons.

As a winner of the 2023 Gift of Warmth, Taylor and her family will receive $10,000 in new windows for their home, courtesy of Wallside Windows.

“I feel very blessed and excited” said Taylor when she was surprised with the news on Friday afternoon. “This will make a huge difference for my family and my utility bills. The new windows will keep us warm in a safe way. We don’t have to use the stove to stay warm.”

She greeted Detroit Pistons Guard RJ Hampton and Community Ambassador Earl Cureton as well as Wallside Windows President Adam Blanck and Co-Owner Stanford Blanck at her home. The Detroit Pistons also brought along free basketballs for Taylor’s children.

“It’s always great to give the gift of new windows and the chance to update a home,” said Adam Blanck. “We’ve worked in this area with different organizations to give back to the community and Wallside is happy to partner with the Detroit Pistons here, too. It’s a good way to give back, just like we’ve been doing for 79 years.”

Stanford Blanck agreed: “This is what it’s all about. Wallside’s family helping other families.”

Taylor admitted she wasn’t sure when she first found the application for the Gift of Warmth that she’d have a shot at being chosen. “I thought to myself, nobody wins these,” she said.

But she sent in the application anyway. And in February she received a call from the Detroit Pistons organization and found out she was a finalist to win. Then, last week, the announcement was official. Taylor was even interviewed by WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV news cameras right on site.

News cameras came out to film one homeowner’s reaction to winning a house full of new windows. Wallside Windows President Adam Blanck was pleased to be on site to help share the news.

“We have the opportunity with the Detroit Pistons and Wallside Windows to make this place more comfortable for this family,” said Earl Cureton while visiting Taylor’s home. “You couldn’t have a better feeling than that!”
