Wallside Windows celebrates Dave Ball's 30 years at the factory

“Do you like to work?”

That question launched a 30-year career at Wallside Windows for Dave Ball. The answer was yes, and the proof is in the windows.

On July 6, our Operations Manager Dave Ball will celebrate 30 years with Wallside Windows. Congratulations Dave!

Ball began his career July 6, 1987 at Wallside Windows as a window builder. Over three decades, his character and dedication led to one promotion after another. There’s hardly a job Dave hasn’t done, from screen builder to installation manager to plant manager. Today, Ball works as operations manager and makes sure the entire process runs smoothly. And later this month, he’ll proudly watch his one-millionth window roll off the factory line since taking on that role.

Talking to Ball’s coworkers and colleagues, his dedication to Wallside Windows is clear.

“Dave is the kind of guy that you could call at 3 o’clock in the morning, and he’d take care of the problem,” said Stanford Blanck, co-owner of Wallside Windows and son of the company’s founder Martin Blanck. “He’s a very loyal, responsible person.”

Ball left his job as a restaurant manager to work for Wallside Windows back when the company was still headquartered in Detroit. He first heard about the opportunity from his brother-in-law, Bill Eldred, who works as a factory representative at Wallside.

Family is very important to Ball, a Taylor resident, husband and father of two daughters.

“Dave is a family man. He loves his wife and daughters more than anything on this earth, and he loves spending time with them,” said Correen Eldred, Ball’s sister-in-law and Wallside’s processing coordinator. “Dave isn’t too much different in his personal life than he is at work. He is trustworthy, loyal, fair, honest and funny.”

Scott Sinclair, maintenance supervisor at Wallside Windows, agreed. "Dave is very family oriented, and he transfers that to all the Wallside employees," Sinclair said, adding that Ball is "always willing to listen to employees and talk with them to try and resolve whatever is needed."

Ball has been known to show up at the factory on his days off to make sure everything is running smoothly.

“He will always go the extra mile for Wallside, and he appreciates the opportunities the company has given him,” added Correen Eldred.

In the 30 years since Ball began his career at Wallside Windows, the company has experienced significant growth. The service area has grown, its factory has relocated and expanded, and both the windows and the process used to manufacture them have become more high-tech. Ball has been instrumental in these and other aspects of the company’s growth, said Adam Blanck, chief of staff and son of Co-owner Stanford Blanck, particularly when it comes to the windows themselves.

“Dave makes sure that the product we put out every day is top of the line,” said Adam Blanck.

While much has changed at Wallside Windows over 30 years, the company’s core values — manufacturing high-quality, affordable replacement windows and treating employees and customers like family — have stayed the same. And Ball is a living example of those values, his colleagues said.

“Dave exudes the family values of Wallside, said Mike Connell, plant manager at Cardinal Glass Industries, Wallside’s glass supplier. “At its core, the essence of the Wallside Windows’ family is commitment, trust, and communication.  Dave models these characteristics at Wallside daily.”

Happy 30th Anniversary, Dave Ball!
