Bookstock kicks off April 22 and runs until April 29 at Laurel Park Place in Livonia. Find recent hardcovers for $4. Proceeds from the sale support education and literacy projects across Metro Detroit. All leftover books from Bookstock are donated to nonprofits and charities.

Now in its second year, Cookstock will crown another winner in its recipe contest, held during Bookstock This year home bakers are vying for the title of Best Cupcake Ever. The first-place winner will have their confection featured at Good Cakes and bakes in Detroit and appear on WDIV Local 4’s Live in the D. The second-place winner will get a tabletop convection oven. For the first time this year, Bookstock is offering a prize for those who attend, too. Patrons can get a ticket with their purchase from April 22 through April 25 to enter a drawing for a wine fridge, and winners will be announced on April 25.

Bookstock is a family-friendly community event. Don’t miss out on a day of kids activities, Saturday, April 28.

Part of our Wallside family, Roz Blanck, is one of the founders of Bookstock. The sale began 15 years ago. Today it’s grown to a yearlong effort with hundreds of volunteers helping to collect and sort books. The sale puts back about $2 million into the community, she said. WXYZ-TV also shared the news this week.

Wallside Windows is proud to be a Bookstock booster. Roz says sponsors like Wallside help to defray the costs of putting on the event so more money can go toward literacy and education.

The sale is like a “treasure hunt,” she said.
