Wallside’s Mark Tecmire talks window sales and ways to help homeowners

Mark Tecmire has been a part of the Wallside Windows family since he joined as a sales representative back in 1995. And while some details of his work have recently adapted to meet the needs of a changing world, he’s as dedicated as ever to helping customers in need of new replacement windows.

Tecmire came to Wallside at a time when he chose to make a change in his career. He had been working for ABC Warehouse and struck up a friendship with a former Wallside employee who shopped there. One ad in the News-Herald newspaper and one conversation with Co-Owner Stanford Blanck later and Tecmire found himself on the sales team with Wallside Windows.

He says he’s still so proud to work at Wallside today.

“When I talk to customers I say, ‘I came here to help you, not to sell you.’ And I mean that. If I can save them some money, that’s what I do.”

When the Factory came back online after a temporary closure due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19 in April, Wallside ensured new procedures were in place to protect the entire team and customers. That meant sales appointments, too, would look a bit different.

Tecmire has always called his clients before arriving at an appointment at a home, but today, he does so the day before as well. He also wears a mask, keeps hand sanitizer and gloves handy in his car.

He gives customers many options to choose from when making an appointment. He can visit them at home using social distancing and safety measures; meet outside of the home, or connect through a virtual appointment.

“It’s really important to be flexible and to listen to their concerns,” he says. “Some people don’t want to open their doors more than a crack. Others will welcome you in.”

Virtual appointments are a brand new option. While they are contact-less, it does require the homeowner to take extra steps – like providing photos or measurements. Tecmire finds that often his, customers start with a virtual appointment and once they talk over options with him they tend to feel more comfortable with curbside or safe home estimates.

Tecmire says he’s happy to adjust as needed. He’s been providing many estimates from outdoors, then drafting contracts in his car and only needs to obtain a signature from customers to move forward.

The biggest change means sales representatives will spend less time in person with clients, and with co-workers. That results in a lot more email to answer customer questions. It also means working from home more than ever.

Tecmire says he’s appreciative of the ways Wallside’s owners still make sure everyone feels connected. “It’s nice when your boss sends you a text,” he says. “They care about you. We have virtual meetings. We can still talk over the phone.”

He does miss the time he would spend at the Factory.

“I used to go there to do my paperwork,” says Tecmire. “I miss the people. That’s tough. But I still really enjoy my time with my customers and working at Wallside. They’re always there when you need them.”
